Food Drive

We at St Michael’s think it’s very important to help others who are less fortunate. We believe that Sligo Social Services is a good organisation to help and we will be helping families in our local community. We all know that everybody deserves a treat at Christmas time.

What we would be looking for:

  1. Non-perishable foods e.g. Tinned food (sweetcorn, peas, beans, fish, spaghetti hoops), pasta, spaghetti, rice, noodles, custard, sugar, tea, coffee, etc

  • Easy-to-cook foods - e.g., porridge oats pots, jarred pasta & curry sauces, soups (dried & tinned), pot noodles etc

  • No-cook foods - e.g., cereal, rice pudding, granola bars/cereal/energy bars, jams.

  • Christmas treats - e.g., biscuits, cakes, puddings, selection boxes, crisps, fizzy drinks etc to make Christmas really special for service users.

  • Hygiene Products- Shower gel, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, handwash.

You can also include products for people with food allergies, so everyone is included.

If anyone would like to donate small toys or teddies feel free to do so. (must be new)

We cannot take homemade goods unfortunately - as we cannot verify the ingredients to our service users.

Please ensure that you do not send in food items that best before dates have expired, and please try to ensure the best before date is in 2025.

Over the Christmas period Sligo Social services provided extra support in the form of food hampers, vouchers for food and toys for children in need.

Last year Sligo Social Services provided support 576 times, helping 267 people (with 439 children).

82% of this figure was by providing staple food products.

Hopefully we at St Michael’s can help Sligo Social Services to improve this figure for Christmas.

To let you know where your donations will go, Sligo Social Services have a drop-in service for Emergency Food Aid & Advice for the community and a Christmas Aid Service for those less fortunate at Christmas time.

Items can be left in the GP room from Monday 25th of November until Tuesday 10th of December.

Thank you,

St Michael’s N.S Student Council.
